SUMMARY:EXHIBITION "FOOD FOR THE ENEMY" BY TERRY NEYDORF
DESCRIPTION:We continue the OPEN CALL 2021 program. The third among the exhibitions of finalists will be the project “FOOD FOR THE ENEMY” by Terry Neydorf. \nFrom the author’s concept: \n“We know our enemy well. He is not interested in Ukrainian culture\, history\, achievements\, intelligence\, and talents of our people; he destroys all of this. The only thing the enemy is interested in is Ukrainian land. Why not give him what he wants\, but on our terms\, on the terms of the hosts? \nThe project’s name may sound provocative\, as if it is something cooked\, but it is about the struggle of free-spirited people who will feed anyone willing. We do not honor the enemy with our hospitality; we retaliate with it. \nDishes are inspired by Ukrainian cuisine but made from natural materials such as soil\, sand\, stones\, wood\, inedible plants\, and so on. The overall concept\, expressed in photographs of dishes and texts of recipes\, was adapted to the hero city of Kharkiv. The presented dish installations were created after interacting with a native resident of the city\, through communication with whom the features of the Kharkiv environment were determined\, possible ingredients of the region were outlined\, and its characteristic dishes were delineated. \nThe project offers various options for how to feed the enemy with what he desires\, and within the framework of this exhibition\, it is Kharkiv’s artistic response to Russian aggression.” \nTerry Neydorf studied at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts and is currently studying at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. The main directions of her activities include environmental art\, land art\, performance\, photography\, installation\, video\, and text. \nExhibition coordinator: Daria Herasymova. \n  \n
