SUMMARY:LECTURE/ARTIST TALK BY KUNG HWA SHON AND STEPHEN SHEEHAN
DESCRIPTION:Lecture/artist talk by artists Kung Hwa Shon and Stephen Sheehan\, participants of the SWAP: UK/Ukraine residencies.\nThe meeting will be dedicated to their experience of international projects and participation in artist residencies.\nVenue — Kharkiv Municipal Gallery (15 Chernyshevska St.)\nKung Hwa Shon (b. 1983\, South Korea\, lives and works in London) explores the relationship between the city and human imagination. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the Royal College of Art in London. In her multidisciplinary practice\, she focuses on discoveries of psychological identification in the city\, the presence of invisible substance\, and fantastic visual impressions arising from unpredictable moments of glitches (visual failures) in the city. Kung Hwa visited Kharkiv for a residency at YermilovCentre in August–September 2017.\nStephen Sheehan (b. 1986\, Birkenhead\, United Kingdom) lives and works in Birkenhead. Sheehan received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Wirral Metropolitan College\, followed by a Master’s degree in Fine Art with distinction from Liverpool John Moores University. Stephen mainly works with performance\, film\, and video art\, focusing in his work on the absurd\, beautiful\, fragile\, temporary existence in which he finds himself; while at the same time placing particular interest on the transience of life. He participated in a residency at the Kharkiv Municipal Gallery in August–September 2017.\nSWAP: UK/Ukraine — the British Council’s annual residency programme in Ukraine for artists and curators. The programme is implemented in cooperation with Liverpool Biennial\, the largest contemporary art festival in the United Kingdom\, and the most innovative and experimental art institutions in Ukraine.\nEight artists from Ukraine and the United Kingdom (Polina Karpova\, Maria Kulikovska\, Anton Lapov\, Vova Vorotniov; Kung Hwa Shon\, Stephen Sheehan\, Vicki Thornton\, Adam Walker) will show the results of their visual research at the final exhibition of the SWAP: UK/Ukraine 2017-2018 residency programme at YermilovCentre in Kharkiv from March 16 to April 15\, 2018. An educational programme is planned within the project\, which will help viewers become better acquainted with each of the residency participants.\nThe curatorial team of the final exhibition — Olena Kasperovych (YermilovCentre)\, Illia Zabolotnyi (British Council).\nCurator of the exhibition’s educational programme – Anastasiia Khlestova (Kharkiv Municipal Gallery).\nhttp://www.britishcouncil.org.ua/…/arts/visual-arts/swap
