SUMMARY:OPEN CALL FOR 2021. EXHIBITION "NEW RELIGION" ARTEM GUMILEVSKY
DESCRIPTION:Artem Gumilevskyi is a finalist of the ARTpodval OPEN CALL 2021 program. He is a good friend of the gallery. In 2021\, Artem also participated in the large-scale project “No Tabu. Renewal”. The author’s works were presented in Vovatanya Gallery. \nFrom the author’s concept: \n“NEW RELIGION (2023) \nAn ordinary Ukrainian village\, located deep in the countryside\, turns into a place where social media remains an unusual phenomenon. It all started with the introduction of internet access and smartphones in rural areas. \nInitially\, only a few individuals started using social media such as Instagram\, Facebook and TikTok to connect with the world. It soon spread to the other villagers\, who believed it was the only way to make new friends and keep abreast of world events. Over time\, social media has become more than just a means of communication. People in the village began to spend more and more time on the Internet\, paying great attention to creating their profiles and receiving likes and comments. For many\, it has become a religious experience akin to prayer\, giving them a sense of importance and acceptance. \nThe village began to change. No one wanted to be locked in traditional values and rituals. Instead of a church or a temple\, the villagers gathered in special meetings to discuss their social media and share their achievements. Likes and followers have become new indicators of success and liking. \nThis phenomenon of social media as a religion spread so quickly that it became an important part of the lives of the villagers. \nSo\, social media has become a new form of religious belief in this Ukrainian village. They became the basis for communication\, finding meaning and determining values in the lives of these residents.” \nThe coordinator of the exhibition is Daria Gerasimova \n  \n  \nArtem Gumilevskyi (born in 1986 in Mykolaiv) is a Ukrainian photographer. \n  \nFrom 2015 to 2020\, he worked as an assistant in the Mykolaiv Regional Council for Culture\, Education and Sports. \nIn 2019\, he started his career as a photographer. \nIn 2019\, he became a member of the MYPH school of conceptual and artistic photography. \nIn 2021\, he became a co-founder of PO MYPHART. \n  \nIn recent years\, he took part in more than 60 individual and group competitions \nexhibitions\, fairs and festivals around the world. \n  \nPersonal exhibitions \n2023 – Greatness/Roots\, Odesa National Museum\, Odesa\, Ukraine \n2023 – Veliteny/Roots\, Gallery SCLAD#5\, Cherkasy\, Ukraine \n  \nAwards \n2023 – Red Light Festival\, Vienna\, Austria \n2023 – Photometria Awards 2023 “New Roots”\, Greece \n2023 – Second place at the Rovinj Photo Days competition\, Croatia \n2023 – Photo contest on the theme “Family Ties”\, financed by the EU\, Europe \n2023 – List of nominees for the Photometria Awards\, Greece \n2023 – BarTur Photo Award\, London\, Great Britain \n2023 – List of nominees for the Vincent Van Gogh Award\, Netherlands \n2023 – Second place at the NidaOFF contest\, Lithuania \n2022 – Winner of the Global Peace Photography Award\, Austria \n2022 – List of nominees for the Pinchuk Art Award\, Ukraine \n2022 – List of nominees for the GUP New Talent Award\, Netherlands \n2021 – List of nominees for the NidaOFF contest\, Lithuania \n  \nWorks in galleries/museums \nGrynyov Art Foundation Collection – Kyiv\, Ukraine \nCollection of the Museum of the Kharkiv School of Photography – Kharkiv\, Ukraine \nUkrainian House – Kyiv\, Ukraine \nOdessa National Museum of Fine Arts – Odesa\, Ukraine \n  \nWebsite: humilevskiy.com             Instagram: humilevskiy \n
