VLADIMIR KOCHMAR. SCULPTURE EXHIBITION 2015
27.02.2015 @ 5:00 pm - 18.03.2015 @ 7:00 pm

The exhibition is a creative report covering the past four years. The works have not previously been exhibited anywhere, with the exception of two: the portrait of Picasso and the relief “Adam”, which is a companion piece to the relief “Eve”. All bronze sculptures were created in the artist’s studio. The exhibition is complemented by photographs of sculptures created at Ukrainian and international sculpture symposiums over the past ten years. These sculptures have been installed in cities and parks in Ukraine, China, Switzerland and other countries, or are held in private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
All the sculptures presented at the exhibition continue themes explored earlier, such as the Charioteer, Horsemen, nude representations of the female and male body, portraiture, sculpture in the round, relief and high relief.
As for their plastic qualities, each work posed its own plastic challenge, depending on the poetic desire to express a particular image. The main emphasis was placed on structure and architectonics, generalization and conciseness, simplicity and clarity of imagery. Consciously avoiding attempts to be “original”, the artist engages in a dialogue with the masters of antiquity as well as with 20th-century masters of the Neo-Realist period. At the same time, he adopts unconventional solutions of rhythm and form in space.
It is worth noting the overall archaic quality, which seems to give the works a timeless character, along with the qualities that follow from it.

“Vladimir Kochmar creates a series of female figures marked by natural simplicity. Serving as a criterion of beauty, the natural, expressed through the characteristic, gives rise to a sense of rigor and purity in the sculptural image…
The aspiration to embody eternal beauty, while retaining an individual portrait quality, is also characteristic of Kochmar’s male figures… Released from the master’s hands, the sculptural composition generates its own space and unfolds its forms within it.”
Art historian L. Savitskaya, from the album “Harmony of Plastic Form”
