2001: Lyudmyla Mabry Exhibition

While reminiscing about 2001, we would like to highlight the solo exhibition of Lyudmyla Mabry that took place at the Municipal Gallery.

This exhibition differed from the artist’s first exhibition at the gallery in 1998, as it presented not only acrylic paintings but also several graphic series.

Lyudmyla’s paintings had three thematic directions: genre portrait, still life, and compositions with numbers. The entire painting style imitated “glue” painting – theatrical decorations, advertising canvases, aimed at perceiving the image from a distance, with gaps and a certain set of necessary accidents.

Mabry characterized the themes of her graphic works as “pencil-edge fantasies.” For the exhibition, the author selected 2-3 paintings from several series, executed in capillary and pastel pencils on white, colored, and toned paper.

Lyudmyla Mabry was born in Kharkiv, where she also received her first art education. Since 1967, she has lived in Moscow. She graduated from the Moscow Art Theatre School with a degree in stage designer.
