In 2004, the Municipal Gallery hosted three exhibitions by our Kyiv friends. On May 11, the exhibition of Petro Bevza “Theodosius II” opened.
The cycle of paintings “Theodosius” is a realization of the author’s impressions from a trip in September 2002 to the southeastern coast of Crimea, formerly known as Cimmeria. It was a journey through the boundaries of land and sea, plains and mountains. Since 1997, Bevza has been actively creating new works of art in the surrounding environment, which, according to the author, have much in common with land art. Working with elements of the environment has led to an increased interest of the artist in nature in the field of painting.
On September 22, the Municipal Gallery hosted the opening of Valeriy Shkarupa’s exhibition “Another Journey”. According to Oleksandr Pavlo, Valeriy can be attributed to the category of authentic artists whose vision can be called thinking that does not perceive superficial fuss and confusion of emotions. His work depicts the original feeling of life, its mystical sound, the causality of a cherished secret.
Valeriy Shkarupa’s works are in the Sumy Art Museum, the Center for Contemporary Art “Soviart”, the Muzeum Fur Gestaltung in Zurich, the Staatliches Muzeum Schloss Burgk in Germany. And also in private collections in Armenia, Italy, Germany, Israel, Switzerland, France, Egypt, and the USA. On November 12, the presentation of Boris Yehiazaryan’s exhibition “Golden Collection” took place with the participation of the author. According to the rating of the Association of Art Galleries of Ukraine, Yehiazaryan was among the twenty best artists of the country in 2004.
He was born in Armenia, studied painting at the Yerevan Art Institute, and then at the V. Mukhina Higher Art School. In 1986, he graduated from the Kyiv Academy of Arts.
Boris Yehiazaryan participated in group exhibitions, his works are part of museums, galleries, and private collections. He also had solo exhibitions. His paintings – depicting women, children, fish, birds – are entirely symbolic and, in a sense, are encoded messages.
The work “Orange Square” became the title picture of the exhibition. Next to it were pomegranates, which hinted to the viewer at another important work for Boris – “The Birth of an Artist”.
