2005: OLEKSIY BORYSOV “DAYS OF VICTORY – NIGHTS OF WAR”

To conclude the series of posts about the projects of 2005, we would like to tell you about the personal exhibition of Oleksiy Borysov “Days of Victory – Nights of War”. It was dedicated to Victory Day and took place at the gallery from May 4 to 14.

Oleksiy Borysov was born in 1965. He is a Kharkiv artist, painter, graphic artist, and poster designer. He has had 30 group exhibitions and 7 solo exhibitions.

For Borysov, as for many others, military events are perceived both personally, through the biographies of relatives who did not return from the war, and through memories of favorite books and films. The fate of both grandfathers is connected with the war and Victory Day.

He started working on the project “Days of Victory – Nights of War” on April 16, the day of the attack on Berlin in 1945. The architecture of the project was previously composed: the exposition is divided into two parts – on the first floor – works dedicated to Victory, on the second – War.

In 1989, Borysov joined the creative experimental association “Litera A”. At various times, the members included Andriy Pichachchi, Andriy Gladkiy, Oleksiy Yesyunin, Vitaliy Kulikov, Sergiy Bratkov, Sergiy Semernin, Vachagan Norazyan, Viktor Gontarev, Olena Kudinova, Viktor Chumachenko.

The group emerged in Kharkiv in the late 1980s, simultaneously with the beginning of the activities of the artists of the Kyiv Paris Commune.

In 2013, a collective exhibition “Classics” took place, during which works by artists of the “Litera A” group were presented.

Currently, Oleksiy Borysov’s works are kept in the Association of Art Galleries of Ukraine in Kyiv, the Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, as well as in private and state collections of Ukraine, the USA, Germany, Poland, and Russia.
