Continuing our memories of 2006, we would like to tell you about one of the most important events for the gallery, its first major anniversary − the celebration of the Municipal Gallery’s 10th anniversary! The guest list included more than two hundred people − artists, actors, architects, designers and many other well-known figures interested in the city’s cultural life; by that time, the gallery team already had a huge number of remarkable exhibitions, projects, festivals and competitions behind them. But most importantly, during those years the Municipal Gallery gained true friends, partners and like-minded people! 😉
In honor of the anniversary, the exhibition “Men’s Miniature” opened at the gallery − a project by renowned artists from Kharkiv and Kyiv. The works on display were created in various techniques — painting, graphics, sculpture and photography. However, the main selection criterion was the principle of intimacy: ”A feast and creativity at the same time, just like in life. One is a continuation of the other, and the gallery is a place where such ideas can be realized,” − project curator Maryna Hlushchenko commented on the exhibition.
Despite the fact that the Municipal Gallery’s space had hardly expanded over those 10 years, the gallery team still found ways to hold large-scale exhibitions even within its intimate space, which at times was catastrophically insufficient for displaying the most interesting projects. On that day, Kharkiv architect Yurii Spasov presented us with his project as a gift − a model featuring an original plan for expanding the gallery space, which you can see in the photographs and which, unfortunately, was never brought to life.
The Municipal Gallery celebrated in grand and lively fashion! The official celebration took place at the Kharkiv club “RodDom” − a mansion built in 1887. Live music performed by professional musicians, artists, performers, mimes, invited acts including “Kharkiv-kVartet”, Yefim Chupakhin and Serhii Babkin, and many others joined us to celebrate everything that had been achieved along the way!
And very soon the gallery will celebrate its 25th birthday, and the doors of the Municipal Gallery remain as wide open to our visitors as ever! ❤️
