2007: The First International Open Competition of Visual Arts for Young Artists

Although 2007 has passed, today we would like to tell you about one of the exciting projects that the Municipal Gallery participated in that year – the First International Open Competition of Visual Arts for Young Artists.

The project took place in Kyiv, at the Mystetskyi Arsenal, even before its official opening, and was organized by the International Charitable Foundation “Eidos”.

The exhibition itself lasted only one week, and each day was filled with a program of special events. The Municipal Gallery was allocated an entire day to organize its own events, and we were able to invite many people to the capital.

The first event that opened our day was a masterclass by the renowned Ukrainian designer Yuriy Ryntovt, where he spoke about eco-design. We invited a young group of Kharkiv poets from ukrsuchlit: Lala Bagirova, Sasha Ushkalov, and Katryna Haddad, as well as the poetry-music performance/theater “Homo Ludens” – an amateur theater of two actors: Lala Bagirova and Oleksandr Dvornychenko.

The headliner of the evening was Sergiy Babkin with a solo concert. There was also a creative meeting with the artist and a pre-premiere presentation of the music video for his song “Medved,” directed by Asya Nikolaeva, the curator of the film block of the NonStopMedia festival.

Interestingly, Artem Volokitin, the winner of NonStopMedia in 2006 and the recipient of the first and only grand prix throughout all editions of the festival, also participated in this project, in its exhibition part. Our friendship with the artist has continued since those years: you can see his work in the main hall of the gallery until September 24.
