2008: “Laboratory of Ukrainian Photography” Project

“25 EVENTFUL WEEKS”

We continue to look back at 2008, which turned out to be a very eventful year for the Municipal Gallery: several off-site projects, the opening of the basement, the NonStopMedia festival, while exhibitions within the walls of the Municipal Gallery continued as usual))

This time, we would like to tell you about the Municipal Gallery’s participation in the third Kyiv International Photography Festival “Kyivfotocom”, whose program included the “Laboratory of Ukrainian Photography” project. The exhibition was presented at the “Lavra” Gallery in Kyiv, and its theme was “Kharkiv Photography. The 20th Century”.

The Municipal Gallery’s project consisted of three sections:
— Borys Kosarev (1897-1994): photographs from glass negatives from the family archive (Sorochyntsi Fair, 1929; filming of “Earth”, directed by Oleksandr Dovzhenko; the February Revolution in Kharkiv; cities of Ukraine in the first post-revolutionary years).
— Masters. Leading Kharkiv photographers: Oleksandr Suprun, Viktor Kochetov, Anatolii Makiienko, Oleg Malyovany, Volodymyr Bysov, Volodymyr Ohlolin, Serhii Solonskyi, Ihor Chursin.
— New Kharkiv Photography: works by young artists: Bella Logachova, Serhii Kochetov, Oleksandr Maslov, Illia Pavlov and Mariia Norazian.

The project also included a round-table discussion on “Contemporary Ukrainian Photography” and a master class featuring photographers participating in the exhibition.
