As a second highlight of the week dedicated to 2010, we would like to recall the painting exhibition by the renowned master, People’s Artist of Ukraine Viktor Goncharov, entitled “Memorial to Viktor Goncharov” to commemorate the anniversary of his death.
Earlier, in 2009, the Municipal Gallery hosted the artist’s last lifetime project, “Maestro and Student.” At the opening of the exhibition, Goncharov announced that in a year he would present his new landscapes within the walls of the MG. Unfortunately, 11 days after the exhibition closed, on June 7, 2009, Viktor Mykolayovych passed away. He had only planned to paint the landscapes but did not have time.
The Municipal Gallery, relatives, friends, and students of Viktor Goncharov decided to open the project he had announced anyway. For the memorial exhibition, the author’s paintings from the 1980s-2000s were taken from private collections.
A year later, in 2011, a second posthumous exhibition of Viktor Goncharov took place, featuring drawings and sketches from the artist’s family archive. Viewers were able to see not the final result of the works created by the author, but the path to it in the form of sketches, searches, and drafts.
