2012: NonStopMedia VI Festival

We concluded 2012 with the NonStopMedia VI festival, which received 134 visual projects from young artists across Ukraine and countries such as Hungary, Romania, Italy, Lithuania, Russia, and Slovakia. The official opening with a presentation of 24 competitive projects took place in the city’s new art space, the Yermilov Centre. The projects were selected by an international jury that included Russian artist and member of the Blue Nose Art Group, Alexander Shaburov. Also included were renowned contemporary art theorist Viktor Miziano, Lviv artist Vlodko Kaufman, and Kharkiv-based artists and photographers Boris Mikhailov and Sergiy Bratkov. Moreover, included was Tetyana Tumasyan, director of the Municipal Gallery.

For the first time in Kharkiv, an art residency program was held. Its participants, Miriam Kardosova (Slovakia) and Alina Kleitman (Ukraine), took part in accompanying festival events. The special project “Presence of Absence. Young Lithuanian-Ukrainian Art” marked the completion of a year of work within the framework of the large-scale international “Tandem” program for exchange between European cultural institutions.

The central event of the festival was the young artists’ project competition. The jury was headed by Viktor Miziano, whose lecture was a great success on the second day of the festival.

Within the framework of NonStopMedia, various parallel program events were held at the Yermilov Centre, the Municipal Gallery, the VOVATANYA Gallery, the Bommer cinema, the AVEC Gallery, and the U Rozy Gallery.

Kharkiv residents and city guests had the opportunity to attend lectures and performances, theatrical performances, the literary and musical event “Font” curated by writer Sergiy Zhadan, and a screening of the short documentary film “Amusements” in the square near the Mirror Stream.
