In 2014, on Artists’ Day, the Municipal Gallery organized an exhibition to celebrate the jubilee of the Ukrainian graphic artist Viktor Ihumetsev. The exhibition featured a series of graphic works titled “Erotic Lyrics,” inspired by poems of Soviet poets. Notably, this exhibition marked the first collaboration with renowned Ukrainian collectors, Boris and Tetyana Grynevy, who also served as partners of the gallery. The prints, created using the technique of high relief linocut, illustrated the theme of erotic lyrics, exploring the woman who waits, loves, hopes, believes, and supports. In this context, “eroticism” is more associated with sensuality than with the act itself. The exhibition’s layout was also intriguing, divided into two parts. On the first floor, enlarged prints were displayed on transparent vellum, accompanied by excerpts from Ukrainian erotic poetry. The second floor featured the same prints, but in miniature, creating a striking contrast between the two gallery spaces. At the opening, visitors had the opportunity to hear the artist’s account of creating the exhibited series, as well as witness firsthand the creative process of a graphic artist. The audience could ask questions to the artist, the gallery, and the Grynevy collectors.
