2015: Vladimir Kochmar’s Sculpture Exhibition

Continuing our dynamic “25 Power Weeks: 2015” series, we are pleased to present a solo exhibition of sculptures by Volodymyr Kochmar, a long-standing friend of our gallery and a distinguished member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

Kochmar’s deep connection to our institution is evident in his creation of the memorial plaque for V.N. Kulikov, which graces our gallery’s facade.

This exhibition was a kind of creative report, summarizing four years of the artist’s work. The bronze sculptures, created in his studio, were largely unseen by the public until now, with the exception of the portrait of Picasso and the relief of Adam. Kochmar primarily focused on the structure and composition of his works, aiming for simplicity and clarity of form. In each piece, the artist set a specific plastic task for himself, driven by a poetic desire to express a particular image.

All sculptures were exhibited on the first floor of the Municipal Gallery, while the second floor showcased photographs of sculptures created at all-Ukrainian and international sculpture symposia over the past decade.

“Freeing itself from the artist’s hands, the sculptural composition generates its own space and unfolds its forms within it” (art historian L. Savitska, from the album “Harmony of Plasticity”)
