2017: Ales Tomakh’s Curatorial Project ‘Aspiration

2017 marked the launch of Ales Tomakh’s curatorial project, ‘Aspiration’, which took place in May. Several events within this project coincided with the international ‘Night of Museums’ initiative.

The concept of the project revolved around a dialogue between all contemporary forms of artistic expression, including the spoken word. The act of artistic utterance often encounters obstacles in communication. Free expression allows for a successful overcoming of these barriers.

During the exhibition, visitors could experience a diverse range of contemporary art, including animation, photography, installation, painting, and graphics. The project was bookended by two performances. In our ARTbasement, the curator not only showcased various forms of artistic expression but also created connections between the voice of Serhiy Zhadan and the textile collage of Vasylina Buryanyk. Also, between the photographs of Viktoria Kashtanova-Kalashnyk and the graphics of Oksana Solop.
