We conclude 2019 with a nationwide event – the Young Contemporary Art Biennial! The theme of the Biennial was “It Seems, I Enter Our Garden.” 55 artists presented their works at 16 locations, including the Municipal Gallery. Even the polluted space of the Kharkiv Hotel was renovated for the Biennial exhibition; in addition, the Ermilov Center, the Botanical Garden, the Karazin Observatory, and Gosprom were involved. In general, the exhibition map became a kind of metaphor for a certain garden, in which they tried to plant “plants” that are not found in living nature.
In addition to the main program, the Biennial featured several parallel events: a children’s program (curated by the Aza Nizi Maza studio), an educational program: discussions, curator tours, lectures; and special projects.
Although the II Young Art Biennial took place almost two years ago, this event continues to influence the cicultural life of the city.
The Biennial catalogs, which you can purchase at the Municipal Gallery, remain as a documentary archive.
