The second “25 Impactful Weeks” commenced with the international project of 2019, “I Do Not Feel Free to Do What I Want.” The exhibition took place in the ARTpodval space of the Municipal Gallery and was based on a bilateral collaboration between art institutions in Kharkiv and Graz (Austria). The project was curated by Margaret Makoretz, Anton Lederer, Tetyana Tumasyan, and Nastya Khlestova.
From the summer of 2019, two Kharkiv artists – Olga Fedorova and Anna Manankina – resided in Graz, while, conversely, Helene Tümel from Graz spent October in Kharkiv. Later, the Municipal Gallery and the Rotor Center for Contemporary Art decided to establish a long-term exchange of artists, curators, and, ultimately, exhibitions.
The exhibition featured works by 14 artists – Anna Manankina, Anna Zvyagintseva, Bernhard Wolf, Christopher Grill, Hamlet Zin’kovskiy, Helène Tümel, Julia Gaisbacher, Mikhail Khaindl, Maksym Khodak, Olga Fedorova, ASYNCHROM Studio, Vagrich Bakhchanyan, Veronika Eberhart, and Vita Glushchenko – seven from Ukraine and seven from Austria. The project was dedicated to the processes of self-definition and self-realization of a person, the concepts of personal freedom and the ability to make choices.
