After a one and a half year hiatus, ARTbasement resumed its exhibition activities. With the successful opening of the first exhibition in ARTpidval, we continue the 2021 OPEN CALL PROGRAM. The project “Melioration” by Emil Mamedov will be the first among the exhibitions of the finalists.

From the author’s concept:

“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine after February 24, the life of every Ukrainian has undergone changes. But something remained the same for everyone, namely the desire to defend one’s own land. The perception of “own land” in Ukraine, in my opinion, is a key issue and almost a mental support. Land reclamation is a process of purposeful improvement of land properties to increase its fertility. This is a kind of protection and care of the earth. In conditions of total damage to the Ukrainian land, alternative consequences of a violent attitude towards it were considered. The earth becomes an active subject of hostilities, it suffers and deforms. The project depicts the process of the appearance of the post-war harvest as a consequence of the transformation of the land. The project “Reclamation” demonstrates imaginary processes taking place in places where the ability to grow has been destroyed. The process of irrigation symbolizes the restoration and revival of the earth, which is necessary for a fruitful existence.

Emil Mamedov – graduated from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 2022 (Department of Visual Practices – Bachelor, Department of Sculpture – Master).

The main areas of activity are installation, sculpture, graphics, land art and performance.
