Vadym Petrov’s exhibition, V E K T O R, 01/19/2025 — 02/08/2025
19.01.2025 - 18.02.2025

On January 19, as part of the Masters program, an exhibition by the famous Kharkiv painter Vadym Petrov, V E K T O R, opened. This project is a continuation and development of the previous exhibition, Facades and Backyards of a Megapolis, which was also presented at the Municipal Gallery on the eve of a large-scale war. The previous project reflected the contradictions of urban life, events on the Maidan, and the foreboding of war. The V E K T O R exhibition became the artist’s fifth personal exhibition within the gallery.
The new part of the project continues the theme of the dramatic events of the past and the resilience of the modern city, enveloping it in the contexts of the realities of life during military operations. The main impetus for the creation of the presented series for the author was the explosion of a Russian missile on Kulikovskaya Street – in the area where Vadim Petrov spent a lot of time while studying at the Institute of Art and Industry in the 1980s. Every day he passed by an old house with sculptures of winged women who miraculously survived the impact. The author notes that it is the architectural ensembles of this location that recreate the history of the city, combining the past and the present. They encourage us to think about a conscious approach to understanding and preserving the cultural heritage, present and future of Kharkiv in the format of the Museum of Contemporary Art. The idea of creating such a museum still seems illusory, but its importance is emphasized in the author’s works. The series also contains futuristic motifs that, through the prism of past experience, offer an understanding of a new existential reality: “I WANT TO BE THE FUTURE CITY!”
