The Municipal Gallery’s ARTbasement continues its work by opening new exhibitions, welcoming cultural figures and art enthusiasts, and organizing various events, presentations, and artistic gatherings!

The upper halls of the Kharkiv Municipal Gallery are temporarily closed. However, the ARTbasement space remains open to our visitors. Since February 24, 2022, at the beginning of the full-scale war, this unique space has served as a safe shelter for Kharkiv residents. During the first six months of the war, entire families sought refuge in ARTbasement. Equipped with light, power outlets, Wi-Fi, drinking and technical water, and a bio-toilet, ARTbasement became a salvation during a terrifying period, and now it remains a safe place during alarms or shelling threats.

After a year and a half break, on September 3, 2023, ARTbasement resumed its operation as an exhibition space, combining the function of shelter with art. This period began with an exhibition reflecting the horrific consequences of the aggressor’s intervention in Ukraine. Since then, new discoveries, artist talks, authorial and curatorial tours, theatrical and literary evenings, and other events have taken place every month.

During enemy shelling at the beginning of the war, the gallery building suffered significant damage, but thanks to the joint efforts of the city and friends of the gallery, we managed to restore many things. Currently, the “White Cube” of the Municipal Gallery serves as a city information media.
