1998: “Lytera A Artists” Exhibition Marathon

We would like to conclude our series of publications about 1998 with a recollection of the large-scale exhibition marathon “Lytera A Artists,” which showcased the works of five of the most active members of this Kharkiv creative association.

Within the framework of five exhibitions, Andrey Pichacchi, Oleksiy Borysov, Sergiy Bratkov, Oleksiy Yesiunin, and Andriy Gladkiy presented their works. Over the ten years of the collective’s existence, many iconic works had been accumulated, but in addition to them, the audience also saw new works by the authors – from painting and photography to installation and performance.

New names, such as Oleksiy Yesiunin and Andriy Gladkiy, were also featured. Although they had previously participated in group exhibitions, their solo exhibitions took place precisely during the marathon. The former surprised the audience with unusual techniques, such as gouache on gypsum, while the latter impressed with large-scale canvases and masterful work with color.

At that time, “Lytera A” had already existed for 10 years – during this time, the artists had managed to exhibit both in Ukraine and abroad. In order for the audience to get acquainted with the life of the association, during the marathon, a “Lytera A” museum operated in the small hall of the municipal gallery, where archival materials, photo documents, posters of their exhibitions, and other rarities were presented.
